Phase 1 Results In 1999, the CCL-Emerging Leaders project team conducted a literature review and conducted exploratory interviews with emerging leaders, their bosses, and human resource managers in charge of the development of emerging leaders.
Emerging leaders are perceived as being:

"At what level do/will Emerging Leaders receive leadership development training?"
This population is receiving more skills development and job training. There is limited leadership development available, and it often does not occur until an individual reaches a certain level in the organisation. A few organisations are focusing on community building.

Basic business and management skills. Also need leadership, relationship, and life-management skills.
How would Emerging Leaders prefer to be developed?"
Desire to collaborate during development; to mentor as they are being mentored. Emerging Leaders want their development experience to be more relationship-oriented and feel like meaningful community. This population uses a variety of delivery methods, to develop leadership skills and abilities, with an emphasis on hands-on, practical experiences.
